Poisson-Lie T-plurality and 3-dimensional conformally invariant sigma models
Abstract:
I shall briefly discuss the notion of Poisson-Lie T-dual, or more precisely
Poisson-Lie T-plural models. Then, starting from the classification of 6-dimensional
Drinfeld doubles and their decomposition into Manin triples I shall construct
3-dimensional PLT-plural models. Of special interest are those that are conformally
invariant on the 1-loop level, i.e. satisfy vanishing beta function equations.
Examples of such models will be presented.

Long-Living Strings
Abstract:
Long-Living non-supersymmetric strings are of interest for many areas of cosmology,
first of all for Cosmic Strings. I will identify what are supposed to be the
perturbative fundamental string states with the longest life-time, I will describe
their dynamics and in particular their gravitational emission. Hints to strings in
the KKLMMT model are given.

Geometric engineering of the first cosmic D string action in N=2 supergravity
Abstract:
Type IIB superstring compactified on a Calabi-Yau manifold gives an N=2 supergravity
theory in four dimensions. Cosmic string solutions in N=2 supergravity could then
provide a low energy description of cosmic superstrings. However, there is topological
obstruction that prevents the existence of cosmic string potential in N=2 supergravity.
Therefore cosmic string actions are only known in N=1 supergravity. I explain how to
consistently obtain cosmic string actions and solutions in N=2 supergravity using new
ideas in quaternionic and special Kahler Hodge geometry. The method can be applied to
other BPS objects and enlarge the family of structures that admit an N=2 supergravity
description.

Dirac actions for D-branes on backgrounds with fluxes
Abstract:
I will review the way to get the fermionic part of the action for a d-brane living in
a general bosonic background. Also I will shortly mention how this leads to a natural
redefinition of the worldvolume geometry.

Simple solutions to the Einstein Equations in spaces with unusual topology
Abstract:
We discuss simple vacuum solutions to the Einstein Equations in five dimensional space-times compactified
in two different ways. In such spaces, one black hole phase and more then one black string phase may exist.
Several old metrics are adapted to new background topologies to yield new solutions to the Einstein Equations.
We then briefly talk about the angular momentum they may carry, the horizon topology and phase transitions
that may occur.

6:15 PM Paul Koerber (University of British Columbia, Vancouver)
Supersymmetry and generalized complex structures
Abstract:
I will discuss conditions for unbroken susy in compactifications with fluxes in the context of generalized complex
structures. I'll introduce the notions of generalized complex structure, generalized Kaehler structure and generalized
Calabi-Yau geometry. The talk is an invitation to hep-th/0506154 which is in fact on D-branes wrapping generalized
calibrations in this setup.
6:30 PM Zoar Komargodski (Weizmann Institute of Science)
Tachyon condensation in the dynamics of time dependent backgrounds
Abstract:
The known results in the simplest time dependent backgrounds will be reviewed. I will explain the physics behind
the failure of perturbative string theory to generate finite correlation functions. Then, alternative way of thinking
about the dynamics will be proposed and a specific example will be analyzed briefly.
6:45 PM Dan Gorbonos (Hebrew University)
A Dialogue of Multipoles: Matched Asymptotic Expansion for Caged Black
Abstract:
No analytic solution is known to date for a black hole in a compact dimension. We develop an analytic perturbation
theory where the small parameter is the size of the black hole relative to the size of the compact dimension. We set
up a general procedure for an arbitrary order in the perturbation series based on an asymptotic matched expansion
between two coordinate patches: the near horizon zone and the asymptotic zone. The procedure is ordinary
perturbation expansion in each zone, where additionally some boundary data comes from the other zone, and so
the procedure alternates between the zones. It can be viewed as a dialogue of multipoles where the black hole
changes its shape (massmultipoles) in response to the field (multipoles) created by its periodic "mirrors", and that
in turn changes its field and so on.

6:15 PM Filippo Passerini (K.U.Leuven)
Non-relativistic string theory
Abstract:
Non-relativistic string theory is a particular sector of string theory. After some motivations, I will show how the non
relativistic limit can be taken for foundamental strings and D-p branes and I will describe some peculiarity of the
theory.
6:30 PM David Vegh (Massachusetts Institute of Technology)
Brane tilings
Abstract:
It has been a longstanding open problem in string theory to be able to figure out the gauge theory dual to any given
string background. Often it is possible to make some headway and find the matter content of the field theory, but it is
a difficult problem in general to compute the superpotential. Recent progress in connecting "brane tilings" and
dimers has led to a great simplification of this problem. In this talk, I will give a short introduction with examples.
6:45 PM Niklas Johansson (Uppsala University)
Boys will NOT be boys - genus mixing and holomorphic factorization in the 0A matrix model
Abstract:
The free energy of the 0A matrix model is related to the sum of topological and antitopological string amplitudes.
Mixing of different genus terms leads to a sensible geometric interpretation of the matrix model at arbitrary integer
multiples of the self-dual radius.
7:00 PM Carlos Hoyos (Universidad Autonoma de Madrid, Spain)
Holographic chiral anomaly
Abstract:
The physics of the U(1) axial symmetry can be realized in a supergravity dual of a confining theory with massless
flavor and theta angle. Agreement with Witten-Veneziano formula is found.
